Аlexei Kulakovsky devoted his whole life to his people. His artistic works, scholarly works on Yakut linguistics, folklore, ethnography are not studied in full and arouse the interest of specialists. The article studies the use of Russian borrowings in Kulakovsky's works. In his poetry, a special place is occupied by works about Yakut women, which reveal the problem of everyday life, fate and hard life of a Yakut woman of the early twentieth century. At the same time, among the poet's works one can find pieces that reveal the beauty, elegance and morality of a Yakut girl. In this regard, according to our observations, in the dilogy "Kuorat kyyha" ("A town girl") and "Kuorat kyrgyttara" ("Town girls"), Kulakovsky presents the image of Yakut girls, their living conditions, as well as quite prosperous life of local youth of that time. Moreover, this dilogy is an artistic source testifying to the beginning of the period of social development of Yakutia in the 1920s, the special spirit and structure of that time. The changes taking place in the life of Yakut society are also reflected in the language in general. This is confirmed by the abundance of borrowed words from the Russian language, confirming the renewal of society as a whole.

The authors of the article examine the role of sociocultural commentary in the first two novels of the Land of the Udagans cycle by Russian writer Ariadna Borisova: “People with Solar Reins” and “The Stars Have Cold Fingers.” Ariadna Borisova is a writer, translator, and journalist from Yakutia, known for her works of various genres for both children and adults. The Land of the Udagans cycle is written in the genre of ethnic fantasy and narrates the distant past of the Sakha people. It is rich in material related to mythology, folklore, and religious motifs. The author herself defines her work as a "novel-olonkho." Sociocultural commentary is essential for revealing the cultural context, helping readers understand the unique aspects of the national culture, mentality, and worldview reflected in Borisova's works, which may be unfamiliar or unclear not only to those from other cultural backgrounds but also may be incomprehensible to the modern reader who is not sufficiently familiar with the history of their people. Analyzing the sociocultural aspects of the novels allows for a deeper appreciation of the text's multilayered nature and its cultural and linguistic worldview. Incorporating sociocultural commentary into the texts enables readers to perceive the work not only as a piece of fiction but also as a cultural phenomenon, broadening its interpretation. This commentary also facilitates a more profound understanding of the text, not only for readers from different cultures but also for contemporary audiences. It serves as a tool that not only explains the text but also makes it accessible and relevant to a wider audience, enhancing its educational and cultural value.

The influence of the family on the formation of personality has long been one of the important issues. The family occupies a central place in a person's life. Family is in the focus of almost all folk tales. Russian folk tales serve as a source for studying the image of the family, its importance in people's lives. The purpose is to study the role of family members in Russian folk tales and identify the features of family relations. In the course of the work, the theoretical patterns of fairy tales as a genre of folklore were studied, the role and functions of family members were investigated, and the features of family relations in Russian folk tales were revealed. The object of the study was 30 Russian folk tales. The methods of situational analysis, classification and generalization were used in the work. The authors conclude that each image of a family member is filled with special qualities and functions important for the harmonious existence of the family; fairy tales serve as a mirror that reflects both the positive and negative sides of family life.

The article provides an overview of the works of Semyon, Gavril and Nikolai Kurilovs in the context of the Yukaghir literature of Yakutia. The literary heritage of the Kurilovs in their native language is defined as the pinnacle of the development of the ethnic language. Stable means and techniques of artistic imagery are considered, aesthetic principles and patterns of formation of the original artistic world of writers in the aspect of interaction with national spiritual culture are analyzed. The purpose of the study is to identify the most characteristic poetical features of the artistic thinking of the authors, formed in the context of the Yukagir tradition. The name of Gavril Kurilov is associated with the creation of writing and the formation of the literary form of the Yukaghir language. Nikolai Kurilov's great merit is that, continuing the continuity, he confirmed the existence of an artistic tradition in Yukaghir literature, and deepening his innovative search, enriched Yukaghir literature with new forms, genres, directions, themes and images.

This article is devoted to one of the little-known pages of the multifaceted activity of the outstanding statesman, public figure, writer Platon Alekseevich Sleptsov-Oyunsky: the years of his work as the Commissar of Education, Health and Social Security of the Yakut ASSR (06 January 1928-04 March 1929). Numerous articles, essays, memoirs, poems have been written about Platon Oyunsky, as well as many books, collections, albums, etc. have been published. His name is included in encyclopedias and reference books. However, there are still undiscovered pages from his short life, namely, his life activity in 1928-1929. These years became a turning point in his fate, when Platon Oyunsky revised his views on many social processes and determined his future path as a scholar and creative person. Restoration of historical justice and a full picture of the life activity of the statesman, writer and scholar Platon Oyunsky continues until now and becomes a necessary task for researchers.

Under conditions of deformation, the attitude of a modern person to spiritual and moral values is of particular relevance to the axiological potential of the philosophical category of beauty and its interpretation in the works of the latest Russian literature. The purpose of this article is to study the author’s interpretation of the aesthetic imperative “beauty” in the story by Yury Buida “Lilaya Fimochka”, which is the quintessential author's understanding of this constant. The tasks were to identify the specifics of the concept of beauty through the analysis of plot and composition, a complex of motifs, a system of images and characters. To achieve the purpose and objectives, methods of cultural-historical and motivational analysis we are involved. It was determined that the plot of the story is an author's myth of the death of divine beauty as the basis of a harmonious universe. Receptions of deconstruction, antithesis, detailing and parody contribute to isolating the following attributes of beauty: blindness, unconsciousness, indifference to man, characteristic of a milestone. Buida’s artistic discovery is the double vision technique (authorial and characters), revealing the ambiguity and diversity of beauty, sometimes perceived as ugliness. It is important that evil and beauty are endowed with an irrational nature. The semantic pairs were revealed: church - market / bazaar, star - man, light - darkness, beauty - a monster, the semantics of which are conceptual in nature. The complex of motives is represented by the motifs of self-abasement, suffering, retribution and resurrection, carnival life, forming the philosophical implication of the work. Ambivalent symbolic images (temple, eyes, angle, stone, cross, ice) bring diversity to the story. The following types of parts were distinguished: olfactory, portrait, habitats, zoomorphic, optical, color, the transformation of some parts into a metaphor is noted. Beauty, which appears as the foundation of world, predetermines the possible spiritual revival of humanity mired in sin.

This work aims to consider the linguacultural characteristics of translating Japanese anime titles into English. The translation of foreign filmonyms requires the consideration of extralinguistic factors, which underlines the importance of this research. It is essential to analyse not only the language itself, but also the cultural nuances of the countries in which the animated and feature films are being distributed. The theoretical section of the study covers the conceptual framework, the definition of the term “title”, the functions of filmonyms, translation strategies and types, historical facts related to the development of the anime genre in Japan and around the world, with a further focus on the various types of animated films. The practical part of the study analyses 150 filmonyms from a list of the most highly-rated anime films and series, as identified by the MyAnimeList search portal. Linguistic and cultural analysis of the translation of Japanese anime titles into English was conducted, revealing specific features of translation adaptation and proposing alternative translation options for anime titles. The analysis revealed that a significant proportion of the titles were translated from Japanese into English using techniques such as calquing and transliteration. Nevertheless, it has been demonstrated that the most effective method for adapting Japanese anime titles into English is through the use of translation techniques that incorporate extralinguistic factors, such as the cultural aspects of the target language. This is due to the fact that titles adapted in this manner are more closely integrated with the receiving culture, are more easily understood by viewers, and are therefore more appealing. Furthermore, such titles are more effective in reflecting the plot of the anime.

This article is devoted to the assessment of the implementation of Article 35 of the Law “On Languages in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia)” on the signs of institutions of the Megino-Kangalassky District. The linguistic situation in the Russian northeast is currently the subject of many studies, which requires special attention from the state. Legal protection of the language plays an important role in preserving the cultural heritage and identity of the Sakha people. It should be noted that the Law “On Languages in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia)”, adopted on October 16, 1992, legislatively regulates the use of the Sakha language, but its implementation has not yet been completed. This study will reveal the level of implementation of the regional law in Megino-Kangalassky District. To identify the level of implementation of the regional law, let us start with the functioning of article 35 of Chapter IV. Names of administrative-territorial units, personal names, signs and information of the Law “On Languages in the SR(Y)”. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that errors are still observed in the texts of bilingual signage when translating from Russian into Yakut. Therefore, the identification of translation errors in the signage of organizations in Megino-Kangalassky District can later be used in the development of the correct design of the text of signage in the Yakut language. The main purpose of the work is to identify translation errors on bilingual signs in Megino-Kangalassky District. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were performed: the collection of material was carried out, namely, photographing signage; the analysis of the collected data was carried out to identify translation errors; the classification of translation errors into five groups of normative language errors was carried out. At the end of the work, an adjusted Russian-Yakut translation of signage was proposed, which allows not only to identify problems in the design of bilingual signage, but also to suggest ways to solve them to improve the linguistic situation in the area. The results of the study may be useful for further development of a unified signage design structure.

Based on the analysis of a large volume of translations of texts of different styles and genres, this article formulates the principles and guidelines for establishing rules for transcription and transliteration in Russian of specific sounds and letters of the Yakut language. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that the current rules for the transcription of geographic names were approved half a century ago in the “Instructions for the Russian translation of geographical names of the Yakut ASSR”. With the exception of cartography and reference books of the administrative and territorial structure of the republic, they are not observed anywhere. In this regard, there is a need to revise these rules, taking into account the vast translation experience and achievements of Yakut linguistics, to approve new rules, and to develop mechanisms for state and public control over their observance. The article defines the difference between transcription and transliteration in the case of common alphabets of the contacting languages; formulates the principles of transmitting specific sounds of the Yakut language via transcription and transliteration by means of the Russian language; and develops guidelines in accordance with the formulated principles. In the first part, the article provides a brief overview of the current legal acts governing the spelling of Yakut geographical and personal names. It also briefly analyses the linguistic foundations of the current rules set out in the Instructions. In addition, the article describes the results of the analysis on transcribing Yakut non-equivalent vocabulary in different years by different teams of translators. These are the translations of 12 olonkho, the historical novel “Remote Vilyui” by Vasily Dalan, as well as the material collected in the reference books of borrowed words by Professor Nikolay Samsonov. While writing this article, the author relied on the provisions of the general theory of translation developed by professor Dmitry Ermolovich and set out in his monograph, and also refers to the results of research by Yakut phoneticians Dyachkovsky and Alekseev, methodologists Samsonova and Dmitrieva. The principles established in this article and the recommendations developed on their basis for the translation of specific sounds of the Yakut language into Russian, in the author’s opinion, will contribute to the preservation of the historical memory of the Sakha people because they translate with the most care the graphic appearance of the original word in the context of the common alphabets of the contacting languages.

The relevance of the research lies in the object of research: the toponymy of the Arctic. The Arctic is an important part of a unique space, the interest in which is included in scientific interests of the whole planet. The priority task of the Government of the Russian Federation is sustainable development of the Arctic. This zone in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) is rich in cultural heritage, which is reflected in folded ethnocultural texts: toponyms. They contain unique information about the history of the region, cultural traditions, lifestyle of the indigenous peoples of the North, whose language, culture and way of life are inextricably linked with the territory where they live. Cognitive research makes it possible to understand the interaction of genetically different languages. The purpose of the work is to identify the lexical representation of the concept “River”, reconstructed on the basis of the hydronyms of Olenyoksky District of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). This goal involves solving the following tasks: to analyze toponyms of Evenk and Yakut origin, which reflect the way of life and beliefs of the northern peoples; to identify the motivational meanings of toponyms in the linguistic consciousness of informants. Research methods such as a sociological survey (working with informants), areal, descriptive and statistical methods (further analysis of toponyms) were used in the work. The conducted analysis revealed 228 names reflecting the components of the field structure of the concept “River”. As a result, the semantic classification of hydronyms was presented and the main lexical representations of the concept were identified.
